I honestly believe that the vast majority of Americans with bad credit never had any intention of defaulting on their financial responsibilities.
Unfortunately, bad things do happen to good people.
Millions of Americans have experienced bad credit due to a multitude of legitimate reasons, such as, the loss of personal income due to a lay off, company cut backs, or the company they worked for simply went out of business.
Or maybe they experienced a medical emergency, an unexpected home expense, a personal injury, involved in an auto accident, or an Act of God (hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes).
Sometimes, such bad things may cause a temporary interruption in the ability for a person to earn an income, which causes them to fall behind on their bills, and all they need is a little help to catch up in the form of a little time.
Unfortunately, there are debt collectors with credit card companies, finance companies, and of course, collection agencies, that, for some crazy reason, do not seem to understand the concept that bad things do happen to good people, which may cause Good People to fall behind on paying their bills.
Now, YES… these debt collectors do have the legal right to contact you in an attempt to collect money that you might rightfully owe to their client, however, YOU, as the consumer, must also know, that, YOU HAVE LEGAL RIGHTS… but you must assert your legal rights, because if you DO NOT assert your legal rights, no one else will.
Disclaimer: I am not an attorney and if you need legal representation regarding your credit issues I strongly suggest that you consult with a lawyer who specializes in credit and credit law.
What I am attempting to do here is to provide the reader with some guidance by letting everyone know that they do have legal rights, under law, through the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
